Letter from the Secretary-General of MUNTR 2013
Dear Participants,
With utmost honour and pleasure, I welcome you all to the ninth annual session of the Model United Nations Turkey (MUNTR) Conference. It is our joy and excitement that we share with you, this year, with another MUNTR session.
This year’s session of our conference will mark another year of academic quality and success in the entire history of MUNTR that has been realised with increasing experience and commitment. Within this very process, MUNTR has progressed towards the better and become an outstanding conference in Europe. It has been a place of intersection of different roads on which several people with various goals and ambitions walk. Rather than a sole simulation, MUNTR has been a central point, bringing such people together, every year.
Driven with the ultimate aim of taking further steps and adding more into what has already been accomplished in its path of milestones, the Secretariat of MUNTR 2013 has formed a unique academic setting with firm contemplation on contemporary challenges in our world, and come up with the theme of Forming Dynamics of Global Relations. In this consideration, we have specified different aspects of international relations and combined them with a variety of issues together with several committees. As to our theme, 12 particular committees have been put into this academic setting, each of them dealing with a series of specific parts within the entire academic framework of MUNTR 2013.
Particularly, in addition to the United Nations Committees and Councils such as those of the General Assembly, and the Security Council, during MUNTR 2013, a remarkable set of international organisations and institutions, such as the International Court of Justice, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, International Monetary Fund, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the Council of Europe, are going to be simulated. In doing so, we are also going to continue our “time bridge” tradition that has been an unprecedented feature of MUNTR for the last two years. As today’s challenges will be dealt by the Security Council, and those of the future will be addressed by the Future Security Council, the historical components of this bridge will be realised by the League of Nations.
In this special setting, each committee is highly involved with various dynamics of global relations, ranging from security to justice, from democracy to political-economy, from development to human rights, from defence to global imbalances and so forth; each of them forming the very understanding of global relations. Thus, the prospective participants of MUNTR 2013 will be provided with a deep insight and observation on these matters, realising how the 21st century is one of global interdependence.
As the Academic and Organisation Teams of MUNTR 2013, we are completely confident that by the end of our conference, each participant will have lived an unprecedented and memorable MUN experience.
I hope to welcome you all into the MUNTR family in March 2013, in Antalya, Turkey.
Sincerely,
Okyanus AKIN
Secretary-General of MUNTR 2013
