Board of Advisors
The MUNTR Board of Advisors consist of individuals renown for their experience and expertise in diplomacy, international affairs, or topics subject to discussion in the events organized by the MUNTR Platform. The Board of Advisors not only aid us in better utilizing our efforts to organize a conference that is "as real" as possible, but also provide valuable information regarding the topics and situations we are planning to put to discussion throughout the conference. The following individuals have granted advisory support to the MUNTR Platform.
Prof. Kemal DERVIS

Former Turkish Economics Minister
Prof. Kemal Dervis has completed his doctorate at Princeton University, a leading institution in the field of Economics. He has begun his 23-year World Bank career in 1978, in the WB Research Dept. In 1982, he has been promoted to the directorship of the Dept. of Indsutrial Strategy & Politics. Having occupied this position for four years, he has been appointed as the lead economist for the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region. Finally in 1991, he has been appointed to the position of Vice President responsible for the MENA region, which he occupied for 10 years. Prof. Dervis has been invited to Turkey by Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit in 2001, in an effort to engineer a solution for the then growing economic crisis, and is appointed, with generous powers, to the newly established position of the Ministry of Treasury, on March 3, 2001. Between this date and his resignation on August 2, 2002, Prof. Dervis led a team of economists in the establishment of a new economic development program which led the way to consistent reforms in the banking system, resulting in the improvement of the country's relations with World Bank and the IMF, and subsequent provisions of over 30 billion USD financial aid.
After his resignation, Prof. Dervis has been involved in active politics, having been re-elected in the November 2002 elections, but his involvement has been rather brief, with his recent election to the presidency of the United Nations Development Programme having put a firm end to this involvement.
Prof. Ilter TURKMEN
Former Turkish Foreign Minister
Former Turkish Ambassador to Athens and Moscow
Born in 1927, Prof. Ilter Turkmen has been a prominent individual in the history of Turkish diplomacy. After having occupied various positions in a number of Turkish diplomatic missions worldwide, he has been appointed as the Turkish Ambassador to Athens in 1968, followed by his appointment beyond the Iron Curtain, as the Turkish Ambassador to Moscow, in 1972. Prof. Turkmen has served as the United Nations Ambassador of Turkey on from 1975, before being appointed as the Foreign Minister in 1980. He has served as the U.N. representative in Geneva in 1983, followed by his appointment to New York with the same title in 1985, and to Paris in 1988.
Retired from active diplomatic duty in 1991, Prof. Turkmen has been renown for his experience in diplomacy and grand insight in international relations and political sciences, and has been acting as consultant to a number of foundations, institutions, as well as news and media corporations and other societies and organizations, including MUN societies.
Prof. Ilter TURAN
Dept. of Political Science & International Relations, Istanbul Bilgi University
Former President of Istanbul Bilgi University
Born on March 28, 1941 in Istanbul, Prof. Ilter Turan has occupied professorship positions in the International Relations and Political Sciences departments of Istanbul University (1964-1993, chair of the Dept. of Int'l Relations, 1987-1993) and Koc University (1993-1998) before becoming the president of the then newly founded Istanbul Bilgi University in 1998. He has been serving as a leading professor in the Dept. of Political Science & International Relations of the same university since the end of his term as the president in 2001. Besides his academic profession, Prof. Ilter Turan has also been occupying leasing positions in a number of foundations related to international relations and political science, including board membership to theTurkish Economic and Research Foundation and the directorship of the Center for the Study of the Balkans and the Middle East, while he is currently the president of the Turkish Political Science Association.
